Four months after its arcade debut it would be ported to the PlayStation 2 console. Although it would lose four-player functionality, the use of many mobile suits which were CPU-only in arcade became available, as well as many new characters and units from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny that were newly added. Two years later, in 2007, the console version would also be ported to Sony's PSP handheld. In addition to the extras available in the PlayStation 2 version of the game, the PSP edition included an all new Mission Mode with missions based on the plot of the anime.

The game would receive a direct sequel in 2006: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny: Alliance vs. Z.A.F.T. II.
