On December 4, U.C. 0082, Anaheim Electronics 's Livermore plant was attacked by what was believed to be a group of Zeon Remnants via artillery fire. In response, AE deployed their latest prototype, the RX-78GP00 Gundam "Blossom", to assist the Earth Federation Space Force in hunting down the perpetrators. The GP00 was piloted by test pilot Jack Bayard, who complained that the prototype was difficult to balance due to its heavy equipment and lack of tuning.
During a lunar orbit patrol mission, the GP00 was accompanied by two RGM-79GS GM Command Space Type. During the mission, the GP00's sensors picked up something on the lunar surface. Just as Jack descended to investigate, the GP00's radar dish was suddenly hit by an artillery shell. The source of the shell turned out to be the perpetrator of the Livermore attack: the MS-06F Zaku II (Gunner), accompanied by the MS-06F-2 Zaku II (Rangefinder) and a MS-14Jg Gelgoog Jäger.
Concealed behind the wreckage of a Musai-class, the trio had been attempting to shell Livermore once more using a modified Xamel cannon, but in an astronomical coincidence, the shell aimed at Livermore ended up hitting the GP00. However, it also revealed their position, and Jack returned fire using the GP00's long-range beam rifle, hitting the Musai wreckage.
While "Professor", the Zaku F2's pilot, was busy looking for his rangefinder amidst the wreckage, Francie, the Zaku II Gunner's pilot, picked up its Gatling Shield and engaged the GP00 in close combat alongside the Gelgoog Jäger piloted by Doug. Jack barely evaded the Gelgoog's spike shield, but ended up losing ballance and colliding with a GM, knocking out its pilot.
