In March U.C. 0080, the Earth Federation government announces the beginning of Zeon mop up operations around the entire globe. Lt. John Cross Ford and Ensign Sharon are deployed to the Africa Front, the largest hotbed of post-war Zeon remnant activity. In a show of good faith Anaheim Electronics supplies the Federation Mop Up forces with the the AX-C10 (C-10) Gundam-R type in addition to their RMV-1 Guntank II s which John pilots. At the time, unbeknownst to the Federation, Anaheim had actually given them what would be a prototype of the "Unmanned Corps Project" that was secretly planned by Anaheim Electronics with help from former Federation Forces Brigadier General Dinkens. The Gundam operated in a very similar way to the Psycommu in attempting to neurally interface with it's pilot this was combined with a learning computer that would augment the pilot's brainwaves and ultimately fight for them. However John exhibits immense physical and mental stress under the system's influence and, in response, the Gundam goes on a rampage and destroys the Guntanks as John watches in horror as it destroys Sharon and her Guntank before his eyes along with the rest of his unit; The incident is covered up as John is discharged under the guise of PTSD from the Federation Mop Up Forces to further bury the incident.

In U.C. 0081, Anaheim Electronics delivers what is dubbed a mobile suit prototype, again the AX-C10, to the Earth Federation Forces this time promising they fixed it's issues and have a new pilot. But this time the pilot named Cannan, is a mentally disturbed, drug-addicted (to placate the AX-C10 System's Effects), Soldier, with nightmares of the African Front during the One Year War. He uses this new Mobile Suit and terrorizes South East Asia around the city of Saigon(Ho Chi Minh City) in what are revealed to be tests of the C-10. Captain John Cross Ford, the legendary ace pilot named "The Devil of the African Front" and his special force team using RGM-79D Cold Districts Type, and RGM-79 GM (Swamp Combat Version) must intercept Cannan, at whatever the cost, to prevent more civilian casualties and put the dangerous Gundam down once and for all.
